Given the specific tolerances required in Viking’s manufacturing operations, and the significant tool value, a central lubrication system linking all machinery is instrumental to protect equipment during grinding and milling. Flexibility and efficiency are key drivers behind Viking’s success, thus oil viscosity must be designed to minimize continuously changing heat and oxidation levels. In addition, as cutting coolant is utilized from the reservoir, the additives slowly become depleted, breaking the fluid down until it no longer offers adequate equipment protection.
Solution
To ensure optimal equipment protection in a varying manufacturing environment, Lube-Tech partnered with Viking to develop a customized cutting coolant that is reformulated on a weekly basis, determined by how the equipment is operated during any given time. To meet the needs of this severe manufacturing environment, Lube-Tech samples the reservoir weekly to assess the health of the equipment and determine what specific chemistries need to be changed to ensure the highest performance. Based on this analysis, Lube-Tech’s chemists reformulate the product to restore the additive package and deliver the greatest protection against heat and oxidation, the most significant culprits in metalworking operations.
